Display - AOC Closes in on Samsung SEC
June 25, 2004
AOC's LCD monitor shipment reached 2.2 million units in the first quarter of 2004, tailgating closely behind world leader Samsung SEC's shipment of 2.3 million units. The narrowing shipment gap between AOC and Samsung SEC was a result of expanding production at AOC's OTPV (Beijing Orient Top Victory Electronics) and plants in Fuqing and Wuhan; OTPV is a joint venture company between AOC and BOE.

In the first quarter of 2004, AOC's LCD monitor production grew 14.1% sequentially and 1.78-fold year on year. In addition to retaining global vendors such as Gateway and Apple as customers, Chinese maker Legend is also one of AOC's main customers.

As for CRT monitor shipments, AOC shipped 3.9 million units in the first quarter of 2004 while Samsung SDI shipment volume grew 34% year on year, staying put as the world leader.
